God is constantly at work in his people to bring us to maturity in Christ, and His purposes for you will never go unrealized. They may seem dormant at times. They may be obscured by trials and suffering, but friends, God will finish what he started in you. So when life starts unravelling, you feel confused, and discouraged, and can't see how you're going to make it, anchor yourself to this truth. He who began a good work in you will be faithful to complete it. You see sometimes we start things that we can't finish. You can go into just about any town or city in America and find abandoned buildings or projects that were started but never finished, but God does not abandon his work in his people. John MacArthur says, "God has no unfinished works. The God who saves is the God who justifies, sanctifies, and glorifies. The God who begins is the God who completes." Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. This was Paul's confidence and his encouragement to the Philippians – God will finish what he starts. Faithful pastors, faithful churches, and faithful believers put their confidence in a faithful God. |
