People don't choose darkness. We are born in darkness and separated from the Light of Christ. People choose to remain in darkness, and this choice is often connected to what they do in darkness. When we choose the Light, we must be willing to expose our works to the Light. For many, this is not an option, and so they remain in the darkness.
