JESUS THE TRUE VINE AND HIS FRUIT-BEARING BRANCHES
I. The Vine and its fruit-bearing branches: without a real union there will be no fruit
A. Jesus is the ultimate Vine (15:1) of excellent fruit (15:16) B. Yet Jesus notes that there are non-fruit bearing branches connected to Him! C. In the light of Judas Iscariot, the Lord gives us all a very solemn warning!
II. True Vine and branches: because of the husbandman there will be more fruit
A. Before there will be more fruit there must be some fruit (vs. 2) B. Yet fruit-bearing branches will experience the husbandman's purging work (2b) C. The actions in our office-bearing can be the very instruments the Father uses!
III. The Vine and the branches: because of an abiding in Him, there will be much fruit
A. In salvation God alone is the sovereign source of all and any good fruit (vs. 4-5) B. The nature of much fruit is spiritual C. How do we abide in Christ and He in us?
