Should we take it literally that only 144,000 people in the history of the world, past, present and future, are saved? The Jehovah's Witnesses teach that — and guess what cult to which all 144,000 belong.
There's one little problem with that, for them, anyway. The idea worked until the cult got larger than 144,000. Then what were they supposed to say to potential converts? “You should join the Witnesses, but heaven is all booked up, only 144,000 will be there and every reservation is already spoken for. Sorry. But join anyway!”
Not a very effective recruiting plan.
So they said, “we've got to come up with something better than that," and lo and behold, they got a 'revelation' from God.
Charles Spurgeon, the prince of preachers, said, 'Do you think that Christ will let the devil beat him? that he will let the devil have more in hell than there will be in heaven?
"No: it is impossible. For then Satan would laugh at Christ.
"There will be more in heaven than there are among the lost.
"God says, “there will be a number that no man can number who will be saved;” but he never says that there will be a number that no man can number that will be lost. There will be a host beyond all count who will get into heaven."

Great Sermon! What perfect timing! I am having Jehovah's witnesses trying to convert me. I am trying to convert them. The 144,000 as you explained it taught me how to defend my stand. Thank you so much for this great sermon. Peace to you!
