But one thing they did understand, is that when they were with Him, they were with someone who cared deeply about them. The word "pastor" comes from the Latin word for shepherd, and that's exactly how Jesus described Himself: "I am the good shepherd" (Jn.10:11). The way His Apostles carried on that pastoral ministry is critical to how the church shapes, trains and calls pastors who, "shepherd the flock of God" (1Pt.5:2).
