The followers of Jesus did not expect Him to come out of the tomb alive, despite the fact that He had told them many times that He would be raised from the dead. They did not recognize the greatest triumph of human history at first. The disciples thought it was the greatest tragedy. It was because of their expectations. Their expectations had not yet been formed by the Word of God, even though Jesus gave Him His word. We can be like that. Often we expect something different and ultimately less glorious than God has planned. When our expectations are not met, we become discouraged --- even though we should realize that God has something better!
