Jesus' resurrection has turned humanity's expectations upside down. It is important that we know the evidence for it, and its significance for us. We have eye-witness evidence. They saw the empty tomb. No one would have stolen the body, and no one could have got past the Roman soldiers. The idea that Jesus revived and pushed back the stone is absurd. If the disciples had wanted to defend themselves they would have been better to keep quiet than shout about Jesus being alive again. They also saw him, conversed with him, and ate with him. If the story were made up they would not have chosen women as witnesses (in that society). It is also consistent with the rest of the Bible, which leads us to expect victory over sin and death. The message the Risen Christ gave to his apostles was one of reassurance. There was also an instruction, to go and tell. Our faith is based on their eye-witness accounts of Jesus' teaching and resurrection. The resurrection also speaks volumes about Jesus. It declared him to be the Son of God (Romans 1:4). It vindicated his claims and showed the success of his work. The man Christ Jesus is now the (previously concealed) Son of God (Psalm 2), the One we ought to worship. If his death atoned for our sins then his resurrection proclaimed their forgiveness (to take effect when we repent and believe in him). There is 'no more condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus'. Now we can expect God's kingdom to come for the power of sin and death is defeated. Thus it calls us to repent, and to expect the conversion of the nations and maturing of the saints. It tells us that 'because I live you shall live also'. It warns us of Judgement and promises heaven.
