The WCC elders shared their direction for the church during this season. They feel governed by three principles, which Pastor Scott explained: Principle 1: Submission to government.
The elders are asking the church to pray and fast. Proverbs 21:1 says, "The king's heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will." We have full confidence that God can bend President Trump and Governor Inslee's hearts to His will.
Principle 2: Concern for others.
Phil 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
We feel bound to think about other people and the ways our behavior might affect them. No, we aren't afraid of getting the virus, but we don't want to be responsible w/ spreading it.
Principle 3: Concern for Christ's reputation.
The last thing we want to do is compromise Christ's reputation w/ all the people who heard about Him through our outreach…and if we disregard the authority over that's what we'll do.
And Scripture warns against this: 1 Peter 2:12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, they [can't] accuse you of doing wrong,
So we think Scripture clearly tells us to be blameless – not just before believers, but also unbelievers – and if we disregard the authority over us, we won't be blameless.
Andrew Criss charged the husbands to lead and shepherd their families, and for wives to look to their husbands.
Pastor Nathan charged the church to stir each other up to good works (versus fear, anger, or rebellion), based on Hebrews 10:24, which says, "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works."
Jim Donald shared some thoughts and closed in prayer.
