Thomas was not present when Jesus first appeared to His disciples after the resurrection. While we don't know exactly where he was, we do know that by missing their gathering, he missed the power of the Lord, the peace Jesus spoke to the other disciples, the commission and blessing, and the very presence of Jesus. When you're not around godly fellowship, the world will bring you down.
Thomas had just seen his Hope die a brutal death. He didn't see the full picture--and when you can't see the full picture, it is easy to doubt and get discouraged. When we think things aren't going like the way *we* think things ought to go, we start to have doubts about God.
Doubts will come. Dig deeper into God's Word. Simply trust Him and keep on trusting.
Notice how Jesus came to right where Thomas was. The Lord could leave you to yourself and still be just in doing so, but He meets us right where we are and comes to us in grace.
