With the country being destroyed by biting insects and the people and animals being consumed by them, Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron to negotiate with God. His first proposal is for them just to sacrifice the animals and have their feast in Egypt in the sight of the Egyptians. Moses rejected this idea because he said that the Egyptians would stoned them because they would be so offended by their sacrifices. There is some evidence that because the ram was the symbol of one of the most important Egyptian gods, it would have been an abomination to them to sacrifice a sheep. Moses declared that they would go three days into the wilderness. Pharaoh then tried to negotiate again that they "not go very far away," but he ended the offer with go entreat with God for me. Moses went out warning Pharaoh not to deal deceitfully any more with the Israelites, the flies are removed and Pharaoh continued to deal deceitfully. We should recognize that what Pharaoh did happens frequently in professions of salvation. The situation feels urgent because of some trial, the person makes a profession of faith and declares that Jesus is his Lord. He may even intend to keep the profession, but when the pressure is removed or the pressure comes from a different direction, he deals deceitfully and rejects the Lordship of Christ. Let's make sure we are not like that.
