That is a fearful title: A Lamb is known as the innocent, meek sacrificial animal. But here in this judgment of the wicked the meek and lowly, inviting and pleading Saviour of sinners is turned to indignation and wrath against unrepentant sinners.
Remember that the Lord’s dual title in this chapter is the Lion-Lamb. From the earthquake to the heart-quakes of wicked men in this world we are warned of the terror of that great day of God’s wrath.
I want to follow through on the closing question, which comes from the hearts of men in the world, “And who shall be able to stand?â€
Surely this bids us all to be ready. Make sure that you are prepared and saved from sin when that day comes and Christ comes in wrath to judge the wicked.
