Your Clothing Reveals Your Heart And it is useless to protest this fact.

Great Sermon! Whilst I agree with this very edifying sermon we do need to be careful when we examine culture and fashion. One has to only look at the dress style of the Puritans to understand such manly dress from a previous century might even appear effeminate if worn today-breeches with stockings and ruffled shirts. Powdered wigs. Even the origin of the cravat and neck tie? Can a woman wear a feminine tailored jacket, if so can she also wear feminine tailored pants? If the pants are peculiarly masculine then why not the jacket? The woman’s jacket is tailored that no man would wear it. So what of tailored feminine pants? Observing how lesbians dress-it is always the masculine man’s jacket and man’s jeans, rather than the feminine cuts. The history of bathing and swim wear gives a real sense of the change in the standards of modesty and morality since the Victorian era, so yes we need to be on guard and not followers of fashion. The lady who does wear pants has to wonder why they are no where to be seen pre the 20th century, and why ladies wore dresses to their ankles! The lady seen in public in her immodest swimwear- like a bikini- has to ask the question: Would I answer the door in my underwear! Certain things may become very obvious with self-examination and scripture.

Very much appreciated! Dear Pastor Brown, thank you so very much for this fine presentation on such an important and very much neglected subject. It does indeed matter what women and our daughters wear. This is a serious subject which is tragically neglected in many Churches and Christian homes today. Modesty certainly does begin in the heart, and flows out to what one wears. May we by the Spirit subdue sin, Rom 8:13-14, as we obey His will from the heart. Richard Baxter in his treatise of "Self-Denial” Practical Works,Vol. 3
Title: "Your Clothing Reveals Your Heart"
wrote "This vanity of apparel is the certain effect of the vanity of your mind. You openly proclaim yourselves to be persons of a foolish, childish temper and poor understanding: among the most ungodly people, they that have but common wisdom do look upon this vanity of inordinate apparel as quite below them."- "You also make an open ostentation of pride, lust, or both to all that look upon you. In other cases, you are careful to hide your sin and take it for a heinous injury if you are but openly told of it and reproved. How then comes it to pass that you are here so forward yourselves to make it known that you must carry the signs of it open in the world!"
May the Lord reveal these things to all hearts. Thank you again Pastor Brown

Good and rare stand I commend the depth of the teaching presented here. This is a wholesome stand for modesty against the unisex tendencies or our day. Pans identify women with an unbiblical philosophy and outlook of life. Even the argument for ‘feminine pants’ violates the historical context in the Western culture, so well pointed out in the presentation.
The wearing of skirts or kilts encases women posture and activity into the God-given designed frame of propriety pertaining to her definite role. Contrary, pants, or trousers, redefine these limits, blurring, contradicting, or often erasing, biblical gender definition and roles.

Great Sermon! Wish I had heard this sermon years ago. It's a balanced view, presented clearly, well explained from many angles, scriptural. It makes a lot of sense.
