Imputation: Faith Counted To Us As Righteousness The positive example of Abraham: Imputed Righteousness (1-5) The question of Abraham’s justification by works (1-2) Jewish perspective (1-2a) God’s perspective (2c) James on justification by works (Jas 2:14ff) Abraham’s justification by faith (3) Abraham believed God (3a) It was counted to him as righteousness (3b) God’s plan of justification by faith (4-5) The one who works gets wages (4) The one who doesn’t work has his faith counted as righteousness (5) The negative example of David: Sins Forgiven (6-8) Blessed is the one to whom God counts righteousness apart from works (6) Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven (7) Blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count sin (8) Applications Continuity: Justification has only, ever, been by faith! No boasting: There is no boasting in justification by faith. Grace: God justifies the ungodly! Imputation: We need His righteousness!
