The Galatians had been deceived by the Judaizers into going back to live in bondage under the Mosaic Law and all that it requires, thinking that their righteousness before God could be achieved by their works. This was so contrary to Paul's gospel, and such a serious matter that, in chapter 1, Paul wrote that these false teachers are to be accursed!
With that in mind, Paul not only rebukes the Galatians, but goes back to Genesis and God's relationship with Abraham to prove that righteousness is not earned by the works of the Law, but through faith; believing in and obeying God
