On 10th April 1912 Titanic sailed on her maiden voyage. After collecting passengers at Cherbourg in France and Queenstown in Ireland she headed for New York.

On Monday night 15th April 1912 around 11.45 ship's time she hit the now infamous iceberg. Five of Titanic's watertight compartments were punctured. It soon became clear that the ship was doomed, as she could not survive more than four compartments being flooded.
By 2.20 am the magnificent Titanic had sank out of sight with the loss of 1,514 lives.
