A problem in many evangelical churches in our day is excessive emotionalism which sometimes is detached from the Word of God. On the other hand, it is also possible for churches to be overly rationalistic while ignoring the emotional element of our love for God and others.
God is sovereign both over our minds and our emotions. His emotions are expressed throughout the Scriptures and are most plainly seen in our Lord Jesus Christ who rejoiced, felt compassion, and wept.
This Sunday we will continue our mini-series in Romans 12. We have already seen that love is a commitment expressed in action. This week, in verses 15-16, Paul tells us to love by rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep. Just as we need to work on our knowledge of the truth and our acts of love towards God and the brethren, we need to work towards having Christlike emotions towards one another. This passage is having a great impact on me and I hope it will be a blessing to you.
