This Sunday we get a little relief, some room to breathe as we take up two judges of whom little is recorded, and this itself gives us some insight as to why this book, an essential component of the History of the Hebrew people was capture and given to the covenant people of God. That is to say the theme of Judges is found in the very title: Judge or to expand just a bit, "deliverer." That is God was make it quite clear to Israel that putting once's hope in princes and chariots, in the mechanics of politics will bring about the deliverance that sinners need as individuals or as a society of men.
We see some relief to the cycle of rebellion (between two judges) and judgment. What interrupts that cycle, what is that brings relief? Simple obedience to the law of God, obedience that is so simple that it isn't even mentioned. It's just done. I don't want to make much of an argument from silence, but it seems safe considering how these short verses seem to interrupt such a miserable cycle of sin.
