The office bearers of a congregation and especially the eldership of a congregation occupy a very vital and crucial role. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of an elder in Scotland, who in the 1800’s said, “the eldership is necessary for a useful and healthy church.” A strong eldership will mean a strong church. A spiritual eldership will mean a spiritual church. Where the elders are men with a vision, men with a burden for souls, nmen with deep convictions about the gospel and unshakeable views on the fundamentals of the faith; where they are men of prayer and evident devotion to Christ - that spirit will be reflected in some measure or another throughout the entire church.
