The Lord's charges against Ephraim (the northern kingdom) that began in chapter 4 continue in this chapter. They rebuke her for her idolatry (harlotry) in vv1-5, her hypocrisy in vv6-9, and her lawlessness in vv10-14. She offers flocks and herds to the Lord in v6 but her heart is not in it. Moving the landmarks in v10 symbolizes moving the boundaries between right and wrong by human precept. God's judgment for this will start slowly as a moth destroys cloth or wood rots but in the end it will pour out like water and tear them up like a lion. The Lion of God will tear them, take them away to captivity, and God will depart from them v14 and return to His place. And the very source of help (Assyria) that Ephraim seeks will backfire. The only hope for Ephraim and Judah will be repentance and diligently seeking the Lord v15.
