i) Praying Through Trials - He went to prayer in the face of great anguish - trials should send us straight to prayer instead of away from it
ii) Repetitive Prayer - not vain repetition, but if necessary, there is nothing wrong with repeating a certain prayer - Matt 26:44 "and prayed the third time, saying the same words."
iii) Intense Prayer - Luke 22:44 "He prayed more earnestly"
iv) Submissive Prayer-v42 "nevertheless not My will, but Thine, be done."
2. THE EXPERIENCE THE SAVIOUR SUFFERED
i) The Agonies Of It Matt 26:38 "My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death:" - means encompassed around with sorrows
Mark 14:33 "and began to be sore amazed,"- means He was taken with the extremity of the horror, and filled with astonishment, at what He was about to face
WHY ? Because of death? No! He has given His martyrs and saints great calm in the face of death! It was because He would be forsaken by His Father in order to bear the weight of sin.
ii) The Aid He Received In It Luke 22:43 "And there appeared an angel unto Him from Heaven, strengthening Him."
Think of it! A created being strengthening the Creator!
He could also have called 12 legions of angels-but He allowed one.
CONCLUSION We have seen the Lord`s horror of soul before He took the bitter cup- think on this: if the Saviour went through all that dear sinner, how do you think you will escape the wrath of God if you refuse Him ?
