On one of the days during the last week before the crucifixion---the most momentous week in the history of mankind, some Sadducees came to Jesus in the temple to propose a question. The Sadducees were the broad-minded intellectuals of Jewish life. They denied the existence of angels, they believed that one's soul died with his body, they denied divine providence, and believed that man was the master of his own destiny. They proposed a question that would, they thought, reveal the concept of the resurrection to be ludicrous. In his answer to them, Jesus dealt with two major errors: The error of assuming that our resurrection bodies will be similar to our present bodies, and more importantly, the error of denying the actual fact of the resurrection. Jesus made it clear to them that the denial of the resurrection is a great mistake. This Resurrection Day sermon seemed to bless and encourage God's people.
