When we’re born again, a radical transformation begins. The Holy Spirit takes up residence within us, changing us from self-centered people into God-centered people. Paul calls this God-centered nature godliness. ". . . Exercise yourself toward godliness" (1 Timothy 4:7, NKJV). Though this transformation is Spirit-enabled, it nonetheless requires our cooperation. An athlete cannot progress without proper nutrition and exercise; nor can a Christian mature without a steady diet of truth that is put into practice daily. As we shun spiritual junk food and live by God’s truth in the details of life, we’re engaging our Lord’s desire to make us more and more like Him.
