One may think there's not much to be said about a genealogy, especially one dealing with Esau. But all of scripture is profitable 2 Tim 3:16. God placed this genealogy in the place He desired it to be, and this brought to mind the contrasting aspect of the boys, Jacob and Esau. One passed over, who is a type of all fallen humanity, and the other called unto salvation, and in that sense a type of all true believers in Christ. We took one last look at the boys and the different nature in each. In the end we contrasted the fallen world and it's people, to that of God's elect. It's here where we looked to our application. The World and fallen humanity has what appears to be all the blessings, while the servant of God seems to have none! Just like ch 36 is contrasted with ch 37:1. Jacob had the kings, the chiefs, the political establishment, and Jacob was a sojourner and had none of these things. But, in the spiritual it was reversed! Esau had nothing, and Jacob had it all! We ended the study looking to the Christians mission of being "in the world, but not of the world" Walking that fine line throughout our lives in need of much grace to do this. We encourage you to listen to God's Word, and may the Lord who strengthens, strengthen you to do that very thing, to be one, who is in the world, but not of this world.
