John 3:16 has become one of the most popular verses in the Bible. But is it truly understood? My conviction is that this beloved verse has been greatly misunderstood and has been transformed into a proof text for Arminian free will theology. But if the Bible teaches that God is sovereign in salvation in many verses, can it be possible that John 3:16 teaches the opposite? Of course not. John 3:16 is no more inspired of God than John 3:17 or Leviticus 5:3, yet it is often treated as though it is more inspired than other verses. In this sermon and the subsequent sermons of this series, I examine John 3:16 word by word, compare it with other scriptures, examine it in its context and expose false interpretations and assumptions concerning it.
