The Gospel of the Kingdom - Message 29 - The Law Fulfilled - Matthew 5:17-20. "Righteousness, the one word that sums up Christian living." - Martyn Lloyd-Jones. Righteousness is defined as "a state that is in accord with standards for acceptable and anticipated behavior, upright, to carry out a total obligation." Who sets the standard for what is righteous? Who IS the standard? The Lord is Righteous and He sets a standard for us to be holy as He is holy if we are to be pleasing to Him. Within this context then Jesus tells us that He has not come to dismantle or destroy the Law and Prophets (The Old Testament) but to fulfill them, fully carrying out their commands, prophecies, types, and teaching. This adds to our understanding about the relationship of the believer to the Old Testament Scriptures.
