When we say that we are a Reformed church, we also emphasize that we are covenantal. We are a church that believes that being Reformed is something that binds us together relationally to God and one another. This understanding is not based on a 16th-century way of thinking about life. It comes from the way we understand the Bible. To be covenantal means that we believe God has revealed Himself in history, that the Bible is a record of God's revelation of Himself in history, and that the way God reveals Himself in history is by means of covenant. We call this understanding of the Bible "covenant theology."
