The love that moved Christ to die for me must move me to live for Him.
What was it that motivated Paul to spend and be spent in the great work of Christ? What caused this man to give his very life in the service of the King? Paul never got over the love of Christ displayed on the cross. We are shown the divine love of Christ which motivates us to devote our lives unreservedly to Him. The love of Jesus demonstrated in His substitutionary death for me constrains or controls me. I am compelled to give my life to Him. I live because He died! Since He took my place of punishment, how can I be passive in promoting the glory of His name?
The sermon ends with the singing of "Constrained by Christ" written by Andy Gleiser and Greg Habegger in honor of David Pennington's faithful 11-year pastorate at Burge Terrace.
