1 Peter 4:12-19 shows that suffering as testing should not surprise believers but instead give an occasion for rejoicing in and finding assurance of their union with Christ, that God tests both the believer and unbeliever with suffering, each with its own eternal outcome, and that believers experiencing God's test of suffering should entrust themselves to their faithful Sovereign in doing good.
