The power of a tender heart. This sounds at once self-contradictory, but in truth, there is no greater power than the ability to act that comes from a person living in tender submission to the Lord. In the master's hands, a tender heart is pliable and easily moved to whatever state or place or season our Master desires of us. 1. We must seek to cultivate tender hearts before the Lord 2. A tender heart proceeds from brokenness and leads to subsequent healing. a. Psalm 34:18 The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. b. In an insta-perfect culture, we are expected to be always "on," but authentic brokenness is a good thing. If the truth is that you are at point of brokenness, then embrace that truth. The truth shall set you free. 3. We must embrace experiences that lead to our own self-brokenness. a. Rather than dwelling on "why me," ask "What can I learn from this?" "How is God going to redeem this for His glory?" Or even more importantly, go to the LORD and beg for help! i. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit b. Trials are a blessing c. Pain is an opportunity for increased vulnerability i. Heb 5: "1For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. 2He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. 3Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. 4And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was."
