Here is these verses Jesus is showing Peter scenes in his life. Each of the things that are found here in our text are representations of events that had happened in Peter's life until Jesus came by. Peter had been a fisherman but now he was supposed to be a fisher of men. And despite of him having twice seen the risen Lord he went back to his old life. So now Jesus comes and demonstrates to Peter that He knows all about him. And that the pictures He will offer Peter are to remind him and to heal him. Jesus never intended for anyone to go back to what they were; He wants each of us to continue in our new lives with Him peter and the others thought their work in the ministry was done but Jesus only let them go so far. When we get in the same shape and want to go back Jesus will be there for us to bring us back. Our sins will wear us down, make us tired, be defeated, and make us think twice about following Jesus. But Jesus doesn't want us to dwell on this; just confess those sins and look to Him. We serve a Lord who loves us and wants to bless us. He's not looking to beat the sheep but to care for us. There is always something there taping on our heart's door reminding us that we need to get to Jesus where our lives should be.
