Great Sermon! Answer: If one will read the account of John 19:38-40 it is readily discernible that Joseph of Arimathaea took Christ's body down from the cross and Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. Then they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices.
Subsequently, they laid Jesus' body in the sepulcre. This initial annointing was a separate annointing from that of Mary Magdalene and Mary the Mother of James (Mark 16), which never took place because Christ had risen from the grave.
Thus, Christ's body was hastily embalmed as recorded by John 19:38-40.
In my message I simply stated that when Peter and John stormed in to the sepulchre in John 20:5, they would have seen a "cacoon- like" figure of Christ's body formed by the linen-strips soaked with the myrrh and aloes that Nicodemus had brought earlier.

Rejoicing in the Resurrection Too few sermons on this cardinal doctrine. Great to know that their are still preachers who are not ashamed of the gospel in it's entirety. In the interests of presenting the truth we must exercise caution and not introduce error, however small it may appear. For in so doing we play into the hands of the sceptics etc. Please note Jesus hadn't been embalmed, hence the reason for the women to visit the tomb.See for reference, Mk 15:42,Mk 16:1ff,Lu 24:1.Please note that that there is no intent to be "picky",but in the interest of truth we cannot afford to be inaccurate. Many thanks for facing down liberal thought and teaching a literal bodily resurrection of our Saviour.
