The instinct to avoid what is perceived to be harmful, while not universal, is common among God's creatures. Yet humans, regardless of whether they are redeemed or not, have an amazing capacity for harming themselves and others. The harm can take many forms: physical, mental, spiritual, or a combination of all the above and many not included in this short list. Believers know (or should know) that there is a cost to following in the footsteps of the Savior and we may even suffer harm. Sometimes the cost is small – sometimes great. Sometimes the harm, or merely the threat of harm, is enough to discourage us and cause us to attempt to avoid what is perceived to be harmful. The Apostle Peter would have you look on the cost of following in the Savior's footsteps differently. He asks, "who is he that will harm you if ye be followers…."
