While the crowd tortures and murders Faithful, some are looking on with eterity in their minds. One of those people was Hopeful. He saw the way in which Faithful endured the barbarities of Vanity Fair, pouring out their hatred on him. He saw Christian's remarkable resolve in the face of facing a similar death himself. Hopeful realised that this was no ordinary way of life. This was no ordinary motivation. This could be nothing other than the work of God. As he watched that scene unfold, the more he felt compelled to submit himself to the authority of the God to whom Christian and Faithful belonged. After finding Christian's God, Hopeful comes out of the town to find Christian himself, to join him as a companion.
Here begins a new journey for Christian and Hopeful. One companion has been received into glory, and the Lord provides the companionship of another brother in Christ.
