What is the role of the Law? Is the Law antagonistic to the gracious, covenant promises given to Abraham? Paul (3:21) recoiled at such a thought. The Law and the promises are not rivals. Each has its role and place. Very distant from the function of the Law bringing men to life and righteousness is its real function of jailing men in the prison of sin. The Law does this that it may be made clear to men that there is but one way open for liberation from the curse of the Law and right standing with God, the way of faith.
