Accept No Substitutes: Back to the Bible! An outstanding sermon that calls on Christians to begin and/or to maintain a daily quiet time reading the Bible. Christians need to keep in the Word to nourish and to cleanse and to convict. Pastor Sawyer notes that daily Bible reading is too easily neglected, often by longtime believers who have read the Bible many times (perhaps adopting a "been there, done that" attitude). Reading inspirational Christian books or "snacking" on a verse is no substitute for a diligent and dedicated reading of the Bible (gulp--a crime of which I'm guilty). Pastor Sawyer adds that believers who have no desire to read God's Word may not truly be saved or may be harboring an unrepented sin. I especially appreciated the anecdote about the man who each day would not eat any food until he had first feasted on the bread that is the Bible.
