Christ is better than the prophets of old and speaks to us a Word that is more sure. Christ is better than the angels who spoke to the old testament prophets. Christ is better than Moses. Christ is better than Aaron and gives us a better priesthood. Now Christ opens to us a better promise from God for our lives. Christ serves in a better Temple. Provides a better sacrifice etc. But all that He does better or fully was foreshadowed in the patterns and the shadows of the Old. The author of Hebrews is not diminishing the Old Testament laws and customs and expressions. He is elevating them to their highest by saying they represented a better thing to come and that thing has come in Christ.
