Now that the hopes of an immediate kingdom are dashed, how will the disciples go about living through suffering rather than glory? Pain instead of pleasure? The disciples were longing for God's promise to be fulfilled, yet if Jesus was now going to die, then how would God fulfill His promises? What is happening is that Jesus is actually defeating greater enemies than the disciples were expecting Him to. The disillusionment of the people would drive them to any excuse to discount Jesus. Yet His supernatural work makes it impossible to deny His identity. When we see Jesus casting out a demon, we are left with no excused as we deny Him. His credential declare Him as the King!
