After the plague of blood, now God is going to send a plague of frogs. Again, the Nile river which is the center of Egyptian life and culture and is the source of their strength, became a source of their cursing. Imagine frogs everywhere. With all standing bodies of water (down to buckets) becoming blood, it was still largely outside of your homes. With this curse, there are frogs in your bed, frogs in your ovens and frogs in your mixing bowls. You cannot escape from the frogs. For the first time, Pharaoh's response was that he would let the people go to sacrifice to the Lord even after his own magicians are able to bring forth more frogs. Moses allowed Pharaoh to pick when the frogs would be destroyed and Pharaoh chose the next day. It seems like only pride would cause you to desire you and your people to have another night with frogs in your beds rather than wanting them removed immediately. When God destroyed the frogs, He didn't cause them to go back into the waters. Instead, they died right where they were, they piled up the heaps of dead frogs and again that land of Egypt stank. But when the judgment was over, instead of Pharaoh keeping his word, he did not heed the commandment of God to let His people go. When we consider Pharaoh, we should recognize how frequent people behave as he did. There is an old saying that "there are no atheists in foxholes," which means in time of danger, people call upon God. But when the danger passes, how many of them continue to walk in the truth. This is why death bed confessions should be held with a level of skepticism, because we cannot know what would happen if the person no longer had the pressure on them of facing death.
