The title of this message is “What Jesus Prays For – Our Unity, Part 2.” In examining John chapter 17, which is known as Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, we have been looking at what Jesus prays for. In the last message, we saw that the main thing He prays for is our unity. He prays for this four times in the passage.
We have seen that the essence of the unity He prays for is spiritual, not outward or formal. The elements of unity, that is, the things that God uses to move us into deeper unity: a movement away from error to truth, and a movement away from sin to holiness, and a movement away from worldliness to heavenly-mindedness.
In this message, we’ll examine the experience of our unity. Our unity is a reality to be lived out, not a theoretical issue. We will seek to understand: that experiencing unity is a process, the pattern of our unity, and the power of our unity. In this examination, we also come to one of the deepest mysteries in the Bible: the doctrine of the Holy Trinity. Our minds can’t fully grapple and comprehend this, but by His grace, we can apprehend this. |
