"Men will never become great in theology until they become great in suffering" - so said the great English preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon. Consequently, it ought not to surprise us that the Holy Spirit inspired words of our Scripture lesson were penned by none other than the Apostle Paul, a man who suffered greatly for the cause of Christ. Indeed, as we turn to the study of our text for as recorded for us in 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, we find ourselves being both instructed and inspired by the fact that along with the Apostle Paul so many years ago, so too today, all Christians everywhere must also give thanks and praise to God for so graciously supplying us with a spiritual resource which is not simply sufficient for ourselves amidst all of the sorrows and sufferings of life, but a spiritual resource which we, in turn, are called, commanded and commissioned by God to share with others who are similarly suffering as well! And that resource is the COMFORT which comes to us solely by God's grace, solely through faith in the Name of our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
