Devotions from the Heart:A Study of Leviticus HOW TO BECOME ACCEPTABLE. Leviticus 5:14-19;6:1-7 The Guilt Offering (a Picture of Christ's Atoning Sacrifice): The Way to Be Set Free from the Weight and Anguish of Guilt, the Piercing of Conscience. False guilt is aroused when a person fails to keep the impossible standards set by family, friends, or society, and in some cases even by himself. False guilt seldom if ever accepts anything other than perfection and never sees the possibility of complete forgiveness. If the person is plagued by true guilt, he needs to confess and repent of his wrong, confessing both to God and to the person wronged. And he needs to make restitution. Restitution will help ease a person's guilt as much as, if not more than, anything else.On the cross, Jesus Christ died for the sins and guilt of man. He took the sins and guilt of man upon Himself to pay the penalty for man. By this act—by dying for man—Jesus Christ sets man free from the guilt of sin. When a person believes and approaches God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, God counts the death of Jesus Christ for the person. God counts the person innocent, counts him free of guilt and condemnation.
