"Ebed-melech the Ethiopian" (Jeremiah 38:7), goes down in history as a noble man because he helped God's unpopular minister. M - Mind Is Almost Overcome  I - Inward Misery R - Retreat From Our Calling Jeremiah 20:8-9 E - Expect Help From Above. The lesson for us here is about compassion. As Ebed-Melech showed compassion for Jeremiah, so we must show compassion for those who are helpless and suffering. Society is full of people who need our help. Sometimes God judges a sinful nation by sending them weak leaders who are hesitant and vacillating and whose leadership (or lack of it) plunges the nation only deeper into trouble. KING Zedekiah recognized the urgency of the hour. We need to be the same way about lost souls. KING Zedekiah obviously believed Jeremiah was a true prophet. But he would not treat him that way. He wanted spiritual blessings but not spiritual responsibilities. He wanted a word from God but would not obey the Word.
