Not everything we can be taught in the Bible is completely positive. Sometimes the things we need to learn most are a bit difficult to deal with because they make us uncomfortable. Typically because it deals with our personal lives and maybe some sin in our personal lives; and that's just not fun. God wouldn't be right though if He didn't give us the whole truth, even if it pains Him to do so. Here in our text we see the descendants of Esau being summed up as Edom, yet addressed as if God was speaking to Esau himself. They had lived a life of sin and had come to the point where they even betrayed their own relatives, the Israelites. They had planned their betrayal not knowing others were plotting against them; even their own pride was against them. They failed to notice the parallel to their own past and it cost them. But with all this betrayal both from within and without the possibility of deliverance still existed. It just requires coming to God.
