It is, perhaps, Ezekiel's birthday. On the day on which - had he been in Jerusalem - he would have entered into his duties as a priest, he is in exile in Babylon, sitting by a canal in a refugee camp. Everything is in ruins.
It is there - there in the midst of a ruined culture - that the Lord God of glory appears to him, revealing himself in a pyramid of splendour crowned by the Lord himself, showing himself sovereign and merciful. 'Happy birthday, Ezekiel!'
