Aim: To become stronger all the time, in Christ (as His church).
Doctrine: The church is to be strong in both justification and sanctification. Our inherent strength and implemented strength are in Christ.
Exegesis: The flow of power, from God to the church: first, faith is the means by which we apprehend Christ's strength (v. 10); then, loving obedience compels us to avail ourselves of Christ's armory (v. 11); finally, regenerated understanding allows us to be effective soldiers (v. 12).
Further application: Why the church must become ever-stronger: because it is the primary way in which God makes us Christlike, and because a weak church would greatly dishonor God (in the world).
Key verse: v. 10 ''Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.''
