While murder is, indeed, deeply wicked, it is deeply wicked to allow a murderer to live. Sentimentalists and fools may say that it's just another murder, and some may say that reason or consistency leads them that way, but what are we to follow? Our feelings? Our weak minds? Or the command of God?
Our minister shows her that God demands the death of the murderer, and several other sorts of criminals, by the hand of the civil magistrate. There is no room here for private vengeance, of course, but it is wicked of the magistrate to refuse to kill such criminals. Further, it is immoral error in professed Christians to advocate a sort of mercy where God has said to give none.
