The basic point of the book of Judges is that you need a king from Bethlehem in Judah. You do not want a king from Gibeah in Benjamin.
Chapter 1 of Judges makes a pointed contrast between Judah and the rest of Israel, starting with Benjamin. The first two judges in the book contrast a judge from Judah with a judge from Benjamin. Chapters 19-21 of Judges then conclude the book by making a pointed contrast between Bethlehem of Judah and Gibeah of Benjamin.
And there are lots of connections in Judges with the reign of Saul most of them quite negative).
And the book of Judges concludes by saying, "In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes."
In short, the book of Judges is a polemic against Saul and for David.
As such, the Book of Judges is all about Christmas. If the book of Joshua shows us the coming of God's anointed conqueror to go before his people to defeat his and our enemies, then Judges shows us that we need a king who will do what is right in God's eyes – and for that matter, a king who will lead us in doing what is right in God's eyes!
