Why do you do what you do? What motivates you to get up in the morning and head off to work? Perhaps you have bills to pay, a family to support. In the words of the modern seven dwarfs, 'I owe, I owe! So off to work I go.' Or perhaps you dream of one day retiring so you are amassing a nice 'nest egg'. Or perhaps you just love what you are doing. Your work is your passion. Jesus has called us to come and follow Him. As Christ's disciples we are to love Him supremely. We must be willing to obey Him, even if it means sacrifice and suffering. Plus we must be willing to give Him control over everything we are and have. But what would ever motivate a person to 'deny themselves, take up their cross daily, to follow Him'? Jesus answers that question in an encounter with Simon,a Pharisee, and THE sinner, a woman off the street. He does so by telling the story of the two debtors who owed more than they could pay. But the moneylender does the unthinkable-- He forgives both of them their debt. Jesus asks the piercing question, 'Which would love the money lender more? The one forgiven little? Or the one forgiven much?" What motivates us to leave all to follow Jesus is LOVE! We love Him because He first loved us! We have been forgiven much and therefore, out of gratitude for all that Jesus has done for us, we give to Him our lives and devotion! 'After all He's done for me! After all He's done for me! How can I do less than give Him my best and live for Him completely after all He's done for me!?'
