Last week we saw God demonstrate His power and rule over the gods of Egypt by unleashing nine plagues. These plagues left Egypt devastated, yet Pharaoh still stubbornly refused to free the Israelites. So God is going to bring a 10th and final plague upon Egypt. This morning I have organized the sermon around four points about this plague. 1. Warning of the Plague 2. Protection from the Plague 3. Result of the Plague 4. Rememberance of the Plague Followers of Christ, the sermon is entitled near the cross because that is where we need to stay. Today we read of all the ways the Israelites were to remember the plague. The Passover, the feast, the redemption of their firstborn, even the flipping of the calendar was to point them back to God's great deliverance through the plague of the firstborn. This was to stir up thankfulness in their own hearts and provide them with opportunities to teach their kids of God's power and love to save. Even as they went into the Promised Land and settled down – they were to continually remember the plague by which God brought them out of Egypt.
Christians, we too need to stay near the cross. Again and again we need to gaze at the cross and see the holiness and love of God. We need to rejoice in what Christ accomplished there. We need to consider the great price He paid. We need to meditate on the implications for our lives.
Are you doubting God's love? Go near the cross.
Has your adoration for Christ waned? Go near the cross. Are you struggling with love, thankfulness, or discouragement? Go near the cross. Do you need victory over sin? Let me invite you back to the cross
