At its very heart loving one another involves dying to ourselves that we might esteem others as more important than ourselves and look out for their interests and not just our own. Love is 'other centered' and not self centered. This is a part of what makes loving others so difficult for us, for we are fallen creatures. Yet our Lord Jesus Christ emptied Himself and took on the true form of a bondservant, being made in the likeness of men. And having humbled Himself, He became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. If we are to love one another, then, we must have the same mind in ourselves which was also in Christ Jesus.
